Madison was due to get 16, pretty sure they did. UW-Madison was shut down today.
We only got 3-4 in Viroqua though.

We got about 20-24" over the last 36 hours, drifts up to 10ft. It was actually the winds (around 40-50mph) that caused the issues, and had a solid 12 hour blizzard. There was actually a very rarely issued Civic Danger Warning ordering non-essential personnel off of the roads. This was for good reason...
...last night while feeling smug and hunkered down with good food and watching a movie, my wife's cell rang; her father had had a heart attack. So, mid blizzard i packed my hysterical wife into the trusty jeep and headed out. In all honesty it wasn't bad in the jeep on the way out. After spending a good few hours at the hospital, we headed home. Visibility was literally <5ft, roads had about 2-5" of snow and i had to stop and chip ice off of the windshield every 10 minutes. We were moving about 10mph the whole way..but we were still moving. That is until we hit a 2ft drift on a road. Two cars trying to pass me ended up in the ditch. I spent 45 minutes digging out a track for the car with my hands and feet as snow piled up in the whiteout. We did get home eventually, but the ploughs gave up just before midnight..even the highway I diverted to had 4" and no indicator of where the pavement was, again hopping out of the car every mile to chip ice off of the windshield. All in all including being trapped on the country road in the drift it took us 4 hours to travel 15 miles. there is still an unbelievable amount of trapped and abandoned cars all over this morning. So yeah, SE Wisconsin/NE Illinois was hammered pretty bad. Everything is shut down and now we're into single digits and high winds for the next day or so. Absolutely unreal. Nicole & Scooter - thanks. These things happen I guess... my own dad has been through it twice, both when I was over here in the US, but everything worked out ok. we won't know anything til probably tomorrow as they have him on ice right now.
As for the blizzard, it was actually quite invigorating and exciting in retrospect. I literally kissed my jeep when we got back...he's worth his weight in gold in this weather. The fact he almost killed me this summer when my wheel popped off while driving at 55mph, well, he's forgiven! |

I work in Toronto but I live in Burlington and my fiance lives in Waterdown which is between Hamilton and Burlington. Well I got stuck at my fiance's place and by the morning we got 45cm or 1' 1/2" of snow. We scrapped the driveway and after half an hour dug my car out from the side of the road. Well at about 2PM the driveway was covered again LOL I was just mad I didn't bring my camera with me yesterday doh I saw an excellent shot of roses with dying red buds in a parking lot covered with snow
NO CAMERA!!!
