Default Hello there!

I am willing to learn more about Photography

I have Nikon SB800 and looking for a gadget that would allow me to keep firing it
without changing the batteries constantly.
I am planning to set up a mini studio and would like
to explore on using small flashes. I am considering using this so called
Tronix SpeedFire but the thing is I am not sure if that would be safe, it could
burn my flash! Is it really safe to plug a flash to a wall socket?
from my own understanding, its an adaptor. I've seen DIY's of it but not sure if that
is safe. Has anyone tried the same set up before?

Any advise would help.

I've never plugged a flash into the mains, generally, you'd run the camera from the mains and that (might) power the flash. If you have a little bit of money to spare, Interfit make some good started lighting kits that run off the mains: Interfit INT182 EX150 Mark II Two Head Kit (INT182) - Warehouse Express you can then get a "S" braket and use one of those light stands to attach a flash and use as a portable speedlite with umbrella setup...

Hi! That would be nice. I'd like to explore on my speedlight. I am not yet ready to use studio strobes

The product I've been eyeing for months now can power my flash direct from the mains. I will still need the batteries, but for powering the controls.

Still checking other options

i am not familiar with that product but if the power supply delivers the right voltage there is no reason for it to not work. Continuously firing the flash without giving it a chance to cool is bad...but supply the power from a regulated ac/dc converter isn't in and of itself a risk.

Do you think its that risky? I assume there's some kind of a note or reminder about the product or else firing at full power continuously will burn your flash. To get a better picture of the product, here are the video I have seen on youtube:

What do you think?

It looks very effective. There is still a risk of overheating the flashtube. The SB900 has a thermal cutoff to help prevent that but with or without a cutoff, the person running the gear has the ultimate control.
