After more than two decades as a PC guy I've finally gotten tired of all the problems and hassles and jumped over to Mac. First I got a MacBook (used) about 2 months ago and it has been a great experience.
So I made the big leap and bought an iMac 27", i3 processor (2.3GHz), 1TB harddrive, 12GB RAM (I added in another 8GB myself). It is a great machine and I'm loving this HUGE display. As a bigger plus, I contacted Adobe and they let me do a cross-platform upgrade of PhotoShop from CS4 to CS5. So they are sending me the full-package of CS5 for Mac, which should arrive anytime now (I've been using the trial version in the meantime). And Adobe told me I can continue using my licensed CS4 version on my PC (yes, I'm keeping one PC -- it a quad-core machine I custom built and can't let go of it completely). I was actually a little surprised, since most of my research on cross-platform changes seemed to note that you had to destroy the old version and send them a letter verifying the descruction. The rep I talked to told me I didn't have to do that and could continue using my CS4 version. So the adventure continues. Wow! I'm a Mac.

I made the switch last year and I will never go back! We have to use PCs equipped with Windows 7 at school and I am constantly beating my head against them. I hate that I am in the Advertising/Design program and I am stuck using a PC.

Welcome!
I'm a Mac guy since november 2007. iMac 24" Alu. I understand Macs last longer, so I think I won't replace it until 2014 (or later!). Since I bought just a few weeks ago my first DSLR, I'm still using iPhoto (2008 version) to make my basic adjustments on my pictures (cropping, W.B., histograms, sharpening etc); maybe one day I'll switch to Aperture 3.

Milk just went through my nose!
And I started on a Mac Plus in 1986'ish (you know, the one with the 9" monochrome screen that ran everything from a floppy disc) and now have a brand new 27" iMac on my desk at work. I have the smaller version at home. I also have two doorstops running WIndows. ![]() Congrats on the new Mac! I think you are gonna be happy.

I have a MAC friend who just told me he is finally switching over to a PC - there is just so much more software to run on a PC. There was a time where a MAC had some advantages, but no more. Almost all mainstream packages run on both platforms. For a given amount of money you can buy a much better PC box than a MAC box.

I was considering switching to mac, but decided against it, mainly for the price thing. I could have gotten a mac laptop, but for the same amount of money I could get a much better PC. Apple is a really extreme example of overpricing due to brand recognition! ![]() There really is only one reason left to buy a mac: Because it is a MAC!!! That said, back to the OP: Enjoy your new computer, I'm sure it is great, even if you had to pay 5 times as much for it.
