Default Hi all!! Need Help!! Which one is better??

Hi all!

Iam new to the forum but have been following the mailing for almost a year form now. Iam a little bit noob regarding digital photography

Well, i need help

I own a nikon D5000 with an 18-55 lens kit (basic) and now iam planning to sell it in order to purchase a better one. My budget is kind of tight... so i started to research which camera would fit my expectations ending up in nikon and canon of course

Here are the choices: Nikon D90 or Canon 50D?? why?? The fact that nikon shoots video does not represents a plus to me.

The other issue is regarding lenses (common issue for new begginers at least for me haha)

tight budget is still an issue and i want a telephoto lens and a prime lens

prime lens is the 50 mm 1.8 (nikon or canon i don't know)

The other one is an 18 - 200
The brands in this case is tamron or sigma? (both with stability technology i think they are around 370 $) which one is better? i read forums, comparissons but none were of my taste...

Any piece of advice??
Help!!

Thanks a lot!!

cheers!!

what do you find lacking in your d5000? Remember, it's the photographer, not the camera that makes the difference.

It is slow, and.. i have the possibility to sell it at a really good price, therefore the advantage of having a few bucks to get a new one
Lenses in the place where i live are really but really expensive though... hmm for example: nikons 18 - 200 lens for 1350 uSs

Same question as autofocus, what's the problem with the camera you have now?

I've never used a Nikon D5000 but that is the model that I was comparing against the Canon 500D when I purchased my camera. I chose the Canon but I don't think there was a massive amount between them.

I would suggest that you would probably be better to learn more about the equipment you already have than upgrade at the moment.
If you have got money burning a hole in your pocket and feel the need to spend on new camera equipment then I would suggest lenses as you say. A 50mm f/1.8 is certainly a nice lens to have in your kit and if your saving $800 (?) on not buying a new body I would add that to the $370 for the Tamron or Sigma 18-200mm and buy a better quality lens, maybe a 70-200mm f/2.8 if you are looking for something that will give you that reach.

But I say again, I think you are better learning you're current set up first then you will know what you need to improve or where your current kit falls short.

Sorry, you posted this as I was replying to your 1st post.

How do you mean it is slow?

If your selling the D5000 without losing any money on your purchase price then I suppose it isn't a bad deal, but you will still be putting more money into a body rather than better lenses. Check out Inkista's posts on the subject, she explains the pro's and con's far better than I could.
