Ohhh, isn't that always the way Liz? You know how in my original post I said that a group of us travelled another 67km out to take some photos while we were killing time? All 3 of the other people in the group had their camera batteries die just as we got there! And of course, we were in a very small town of 1 little stop & shop place and only about 1500 people. The nearest camera store was back where we came from

I haven't forgotten to charge the battery since though, so that's good... but I now got my eye on an extra battery, and a car charger. One of these days my battery is gonna outlast my CF card... one day.

i've driven about 4 hours, but it wasn't a specific destination, it was more of a road trip to explore & see what I bump into. And it was fall so there were great colors to get.

I flew from Auckland to Christchurch, spent a freezing night in a cheap motel with broken heating and then caught the 6.30am Trans Scenic Alpine express to Springfield, about an hour out of Christchurch for the sole purpose of taking photos of actors dressed in silly yellow suits (aka The Simpsons) does that count?

Am also planning for a photographic expedition to the wilds of Queenstown in October...

Before I vote, can I ask how specific that "just" is? For example, one of the main reasons I was keen to take a trip to Galicia in Northern Spain (> 500 miles) earlier this month was to take photos. However, it wouldn't be true to say that it was just to take photos as I could also name a number of other motivations and I could have kept much closer to home if I was only interested in taking pictures.

Wulf

ps. Still working on publishing the shots - I've got a set on Flickr but think I might have stop trickling them in at such a slow rate or I won't be finished until May!

"Just" is meant to imply that the primary motivation of the trip was taking photos. It doesn't mean you can't do anything else, but simply that it's the main goal. I'd be amazed if everything was done for one single reason

Default Stairs over miles

I drove the 30 or so minutes to shoot autumn leaves in the Deam Wilderness, but the harder part was climbing the 133 steps of the fire tower to get above the tree tops.

Default Bike trip

I had to choose the 100 mile button, but I don't think that's really fair because I did it on a bike over one of the biggest hills in the bay area. Here's a couple of the shots I got.

If you recognize the green hills and the blue sky, it's because the default wall paper for window xp was taken in the same area.
