Red face Suggestions for sore arm!!

Ok, this may be a a strange topic, but I'm hoping that someone can give me some advice and tips to help my arm stop hurting so much!!

My right arm is killing me from editing so much! It aches from the shoulder down to my finger tips. I also have a knot on the underside of my wrist where it rubs on the desk as I use my mouse.....

Is there something you use that helps with this? Anyone use a tablet rather than a mouse? What about some sort of wrist guard type thing to help your wrist stay up off the desk. I am just at a point where it is hard to do my editing because it hurts so badly. I am taking Advil too, that helps a little.

Thank you for any advice!

The only thing I can suggest is one of those mouse pads that have the gel cradle for your wrist, or walk away from the computer once in a while. I have a tablet, but have not used it yet. I still use the track pad on my laptop.

Take a break, rest up and if the pain doesn't stop after that seek medical attention. Although if you're already at the point it's making you stop work then medical attention should probably be your first stop.

Physio should be able to help - sounds like RSI.

*note i know no medical stuff and this is simple osmo-doctoring at its finest*

stretch regularly,
a gel wrist pad helps.
increase the sensitivity of your mouse so you don't move your whole arm, only your wrist.
make sure your arm is supported and you aren't holding it off the desk with your shoulder
the top of your monitor needs to be about eye level. (mine is slightly above)

this is what I get told in my regular visits from a "workstation assessor"....
that should help.

After having had pain in my wrist, arm, and shoulder for months now, I decided to try a Bamboo Pen&Touch from Wacom. Best decision I've ever made. It has completely replaced my mouse, and the pain has gone!

This is my experience, it does not necessarily have to apply to you.

Regards,

Hugo

There is no magic cure, but the suggestion to try a Wacom pad is a good idea. I use one (not to relieve pain, but I like it)
Other than that try a track ball instead of a mouse, try changing the height of your chair/desk etc. and take a break now and then. Just a few suggestions.
The occasional advil is O.K but take it easy, it can be really bad for your stomach!

I ran into the same sort of pain from using MS Visio and doing some 3D modelling and drafting (not in Visio). I switched to a Logitech Trackman and my pain is gone.

Like Hugo said, it worked for me. Your mileage may vary.

I had the same problem when I first got Photoshop and was spending ALL DAY at the computer practising new skills. I was told it was probably RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury). As an interim measure, I used a rolled up hand towel under my wrist in front of the mouse pad and it worked like a charm. I used it for a few weeks and now that I spend less time at the computer, the pain has gone and I don't use it anymore. Just my 2c.. Hope you get sorted out.
