Well, I got bored yesterday and made a wallpaper from a pre-existing one (dunno how else to word it)
Disney provided wallpaper (roughly): ![]() Into: ![]() I emailed Disney (i think it was them atleast) asking for a permissions doc to use for my portfolio and to share. This was the email: Question regarding permissions documents: I'm sorry if this form is solely to deal with website questions, but I have a question regarding your company's/site's opinion on artistic permission documents. I see both in the text above, along with the Terms and Conditions that you don't accept unsolicited creative material. Well, this is rather unsolicited, but I was wondering not if you would accept a creative work I've made, but if it would be found acceptable to post said work on a website to share. Before I go any further, It's very obvious that people get away with this kind of stuff all the time (posting photo manipulations of your company's work), however, I'd much rather take a more honest and legal route before I proceed any further. The specific photomanipulation(s) were/was taken from Tron :: Downloads , and was turned into http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/20...v2-d37csiv.jpg . All I really ask for would be the permission (specifically, FAQ #257: What sort of permission do I need to use someone else's work? on deviantART Help and FAQ ) to be able to share this so other people may use it, not for the intent to sell and try and make a profit off it. (And also hopefully this is the right place to ask this and I haven't wasted your time) Lastly, I suppose, that the company may wish to use this because of the Terms and Conditions. I'm perfectly acceptable with that:I just want to share something I've made for a movie I enjoyed. Despite completing forgetting I wanted to use it in my college portfolio...are they gonna say yes?

Just a guess here, If it's Disney they will say NO and also ask that it not only be removed, but destroyed as well, and they may go as far as forwarding to to their legal team, being that you basically already infringed on their copyright...Permission should be granted first and in writing...Please poth your responce as I'm curious about this.

I'm in agreement. The answer will most definately be a big fat NO (possibly legal action). Years ago I was putting together pages for an elementary school yearbook and wanted to use images of Rugrats ( an animated show that was popular at the time). We expressed that it was only for 1st grade students of one particular school and would not be sold to the general public. We not only got a "no" but almost a threat not to use the images.

Considering Disney was at the heart of the whole DMCA "Mickey Mouse" law they are sure to threaten you. This law is in place because Mickey was due to become public domain. DMCA is all about protecting corporate interests and fining you a bazillion dollars so you can live in poverty the rest of your natural life.
We have Sonny Bono to thank for this. To bad the tree could not strike faster than the pen. Sonny Bono - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was never pro I was just stating the obvious playing field. Even if we don't like the law it does apply. Want it changed? Contact your congressman.
