Default Wedding Photographers - WTH is with the jumping shot?

This new overdone trend is about the dumbest thing I think I have yet to see. People look the best part of retarded when jumping. No offense to mentally challenged people. But really people this is about the dumbest cliche shot a wedding photographer could do. Whoever came up with it should be shot.

Never seen one of those shots before, but I really like the examples you posted -- they are kind of neat.

yeah, pretty lame...
although some people want "fun" shots and then are as exciting as a corpse.
if you want fun... act fun!

some people actually like corn... normally the same folk that like color selection.

NEW trend?

What is it, 50 years since Philippe Halsman published the Jump book?

At this point, I think it's achieved genre status. I doubt anybody who does a jump shot prides themselves on being original in doing it.

They may be over done in general but not everyone sees this kind of stuff so to them its unique or different. As a photographer you are going to see the same shots over and over again if you do weddings (or any kind of specialty shooting). But the couples may have only seen it once or twice from a friend or a bridal magazine. Just something to keep in mind.

But yeah, the faces some people make when they jump, or that fact that there is usually one person than can barely get an inch off the ground

wedding group jumping - Google Search
I guess its all matter of opinion if you dont like it dont do it? I have had many people ask for the shot because they love the way they turn out.

As for the shot its self i think it shows action, movement, excitement and so much more yes some people (including myself) shouldnt jump :P but for most its good fun.

If it means anything to ya my sister would agree with you i did a picture of some clients jumping and the clients loved them most people loved them but she had nothing good to say about them lol

I like the Jacques-Henri Lartigue ones too....think they're more like 100 years old....

I think they're brilliant but the staged wedding shots do nothing for me....they're shots I'd take if somebody paid me to but that's about it.

i would imagine that the shot you get right after the jump shot is pretty nice in terms of showing real emotion.
