Thumbs up Street Photography - Vivian Maier

I did a site search and could not find where this had been posted before, and I thought it worth sharing. Here is a link to a news story about the discovery of a unknown "street photographer" named Vivian Maier. I think it is an amazing story and begs the thought.. "how many more like her may there be?"

LOL... yeah, I am used to going ignored in my home life too! No sure why my search did not find your post, but at the end of the day.. isn't this a fantastic story? Inspires me on 2 levels.. makes me want to hit some yard sales AND makes me want to take my smallest camera and set if for monotone/high iso and go downtown!

Thank YOU for showing some love.. I will go post this response on your post too!!

I just hope that out of the 70+ views you got some of them took the time to open the link. Their loss if they did not.

How did you happen upon this story. I have a lot of family in Chicago and they never mentioned this story.

Thanks David. I am fairly active at many websites and I run across a lot of cool things. If somebody posts something like this on one site that does not seem to get picked up on the others, I share. I believe I ran across this on DPReview. That poster said they found it on another site! I have posted it on 3 sites now.

It really is a cool story, but kind of sad that she never found any acknowledgement in her lifetime and that somebody else is going to reap all the reward for her work. Her work, what little has been developed and posted, is amazing. As I said, inspiring.

I saw this early this morning and subscribed to the blog. I spent quite a bit of time on there this morning, and am amazed! I can't wait to see where this is going!
Thanks for the info!

Papa,

She might have been more at peace without the recognition while she was alive. Seems like she made photographs for the love of capture, It also seems from the new clip that the right guy found the negative. While he is certainly going to be rewarded for his find and work, he appears to interested in the artist and her story as well.

I clicked the link and wow the photos are awesome! It just makes you want to go out and take REAL black and white photos not colour photos that get changed to black and white in post lol! I wonder if she was able to get better candid shots because the camera was at waist height rather than pointing a lens right in someone's personal space at face height?

Thanks for posting the link. The nanny looks kind of Nanny McFee but quaint.

I agree, David. I think this gentleman is treating this with the respect it deserves. I have actually viewed some of his personal work.. he is not a bad photographer himself.

Thanks Rachel. I had hope that a few people might enjoy this. I have a cheap dSLR that has the ability to shoot b/w in camera... and a small pancake lens that would be about 50mm on an old film camera. I am thinking about setting the ISO to 1600 and going downtown this weekend. See what I can see!
