Laptop feeling very VERY sluggish lately.......

Bought a Toshiba 1 Terabyte USB external hard drive.....

Used the proprietory backpup software loaded on the drive... EZ Backup

Backed up all of my data....(Took almost 6 hours)

formatted the laptop and loaded a fresh copy of WIN7 Ultimate......

loaded the EZ backup software back on the laptop

Hit restore all data and...............

NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It won't restore my data.....

All of the data is there on the external drive saved in some weird EZ Backup format but it WILL NOT restore it back onto my hard drive........

Before you start up your laptop, have the external hard drive plugged in, then turn your laptop on & hit F12 over & over until boot menu appears. Select boot from USB. There should be a walk-thru to restoring data. My hubby (who owns a computer store) said it should work. Worth a try, anyway

I'll try that and see if it works. I don't want to restore EVERYTHING just all my folders I had backed up that I wanted to save. LOL

Nope that wants to erase the drive and restore the whole thing to how it was BEFORE I formatted it and reinstalled WIN7 I just want it to restore my documents, music and pictures folders.

I know very little about this stuff but here goes.

What exactly is the file type? What are the 3 letters after the dot? For Acronis True Image I get .tib files.

I can right-click on the .tib file & "Mount" it. Which then will allow me to navigate to any file or folder & copy it to my C Drive.

Another thought. Why load the EZ Backup onto your laptop? Can't you just open it on the external HD itself?

Tried running it from the External and installed HD with the same results.

They are saved as .NBF files

1) Backup/ghost C partition using Win 7 backup (I like Acronis True Image better).

2) Download EZ Backup and install.

3) Try restores selected files/folders from external HD NBF files.

If that failed and you're using 3rd party drive backup program (to save Win 7 Ultimate) then copy that backup file to a safe place.

Restore NBF back to your laptop to recreate the old configuration. Then redo your data files backup without using EZBackup.

In cases such as yours, I generally use Teracopy to copy files to an external drive via eSATA/USB 3. Install OS/restore from previous c partition backup then copy the files back. Piece of cake.

Is the user name and password on your new win7 install the same as it was on your old install? Was your old install win7 or xp? If it was xp then try installing xp then trying to restore. After the restore then copy (do not use backup software) the files you want saved to the external, install win7 and copy the files back.
