Oh god I hate music playing on websites. Unless I want to play the music, don't play music without the user clicking a button to do so.
As for copyright, I'm not sure. You wouldn't just be able to use them without permission due to copyright laws, but you could possibly get permission. |

There is royalty-free music out there. Google it. Otherwise, even if you bought the CD, you need the artist's permission to use it. Some classical stuff I believe is public domain, but you better google that too, because someone performed it recently, and will probably expect royalties from you. Ugh. No wonder Napster was so popular. |

Many people set up websites that are very impressive but they want to add music. How do I put music on my website? A common question with an easy answer. Music files are embedded into a website using HTML code. This code is available free on the internet. A person with a music file can type in code that will play music in the background, show the player, not show the player, etc. HTML code can also be used to allow the visitor to listen to the music if they want by clicking a box and do many other things.
If a person does not want to take the time to type in the code themselves, there are businesses that provide it for a fee. When the code is provided the individual copies and pastes the code onto their website. There are also Internet businesses that, for a fee, will send updated code to paste which will change the music. _______________ David Last edited by lputman; 12-22-2010 at 07:06 PM. |

I'm going to jump in here and say that I hate it, too. If music plays on a website, I close it without even taking a glance at it. It annoys the hell out of me and takes longer to load.

I think you're seeing a consensus in this very small sampling that most are saying that they don't like music...and I also agree with them. Most people that visit a photographer's website are there to see other people's work, styles, and possibly new trends....or maybe looking to hire a photographer. Music tastes are very subjective, and what my 22 year old likes is totally different than what I like, and probably very different than what you like. Why include it and run the risk of being X'd out, and possibly losing a prospective client? Remember, you're imposing your taste on someone else, not unlike when that car pulls up next to you with 120db of hip-hop playing that has your internal organs jumping

And,as a side note, playing any sorts of sounds on your website, without letting people know before it starts playing is widely regarded as poor website etiquette. Having an option to turn it off is good, but you should first give them the option of turning it on. Last edited by dakwegmo; 02-13-2011 at 04:02 PM. |
