I enetered that last year - didn't stand a chance lols.
Alot of people are complaining about that grand prize winner as it's a montage of about 3 different shots and NG apparently frown upon that. - I'd have to agree, with something like the NG the post production should be kept to the basics.

Uhh... you sure about that?

Then again, it is a pretty amazing scene for a panorama!

I understand that, but look at the image. It's not a montage.

There's always going to be someone who complains, but as I didn't enter it makes no difference to me

All the images that made the finals are stunning and inspirational.
With the possible exception of the man sitting by the yellow wall. Capturing the bird's shadow on the end of seat was an amazing stroke of luck, but the picture itself is not all that interesting.

Maybe I should have quoted or been more specific - that was my point I don`t see a problem with it as it is stitched. It`s also a great image, I can only imagine most of the complaints stem from not winning...

As for montage, I doubt NG would smile upon something like The Stone`s sky very much.

I didn't enter this year and I wouldn't be so petty as to berate an image because I didn't win - unless it is cleary a ridiculous result. I'm just not sure that that image is stiched, looking at the positiono f the sun etc it would almost have to be done in layers to compensate for under/over exposed parts.

The rules do imply that alot of digital manipulation is a no no - and that image has clearly been edited a fair bit beyond what they state.

2010 National Geographic Photo Contest - Digital Manipulation - National Geographic Magazine

It's a good photo, but I prefer some of the others myself.
