Question Lunar eclipse

Hi All:

According to the local news on the morning(from 1am to 3:15am ) of December 21,2010 in Costa Rica we will be to see a total lunar eclipse. As you can imagine I will like to take some photographs of this event since the next one will take place on 2014. The purpose of post is to hear tips from you on how to take the best shots. As a hint my gear is a Sony alpha 200 and a 3.5-5.6/18-70 and a 4.5-5.6/75-300 and some basic filters.

Thanks in advance.

I would love to, but I am afraid I will be asleep at that time. Plus it is way to cold up here in Michigan!!!Good luck with your shots and make sure you post them!

I too will be up most of the night, first for the lunar eclipse and then for the solstice sunrise. This dual event is the first of its kind in well over 400 years and not to be missed in my book.

I'm hoping for clear skies tonight, though its not looking good. Apparently we should have the setting sun and the raising eclipse in the same sky.

Very awesome, Kinda wish I were over there, Unfortunately, i`m in Japan - I think I can catch the end of it in the morning

As for photographing it, like most pictures of the night sky, a tripod and a long exposure, focus to infinite, a clock drive for tracking the moon would be useful. Though if the moon is in partial eclipse you`ll have to balance a more daylight like exposure for the lit sections of the moon.

Where's the Lunar eclipse? that's only a full moon shot. Because of the lovely cloud layer we had here in the PNW, I could see crap.
