Question on Archiving Photos

Morning Everyone - I am getting ready to throw my images to a dvd for archiving.

Is there any harm done to the image files if they are placed in a zip folder? This seems like a bad idea, assuming that the more you compress the data, the greater the chance for corruption/loss, but I'm a noob and would like to hear from others if I could please.

No, there is lossless zip (bigger files). Personally I wouldn't; just one more bit of "dependence" if you should ever need them.

The problem of zipping the files up is not data (quality) loss from the compression / decompression process. The issue is that if the single, large zip file gets damaged, there is a chance you won't be able to recover any of the files. I don't think the cost of a couple of extra DVDs is enough to make it worth going with a compressed format.
