Default School Delays and Cancellations

When there is a delay or cancellation, what time does the school board call to let you know?
Some of my local friends and I were just discussing on facebook how ridiculously early they call in the mornings. They start the phone system at 4:30 am.
Seriously, when someone calls my house at 4:30 in the morning, I am thinking "somebody better be dead or you will be after I crawl out of this bed to answer that." Then the phone usually wakes all the kids up. Some are in school, and some are homeschooled, so it is just a pain all around.
Just wondering though if this is everywhere or are we just special?

we don't have snow days! only hurricane days, and we have plenty of advance notice...I do get robo calls from the schools several times when the cafeteria balance reaches 50 cents over drawn...thats annoying..

Our schools don't get closed unless we've got a meter of snow. Do get the robo-calls too for different things, but that usually in the evenings.

Surprisingly, they just made the announcement tonight (at 8:45 pm) that school will be closed tomorrow. We got 3 inches of snow today I do not understand the county that we live in. Just get out there, clear the roads and everything will be fine. WTH?

Just this year they started calling us fairly early. We had a delay the other day and got a call at 5:00 a.m. It didn't bother me, but some other folks in the district were pissed. We're up at 5:45 anyway, and the phone didn't wake the kids. They pretty much sleep through a bomb going off.

LOL, spoken like a true Southerner! Have a New England winter and ya might change your tune. LOL, I'm just teasin' y'all. We've gotten calls the night before in the past as well. Most of the time it's a good call, sometimes it's just a fluke and we don't get what they expected. Guess they're just trying to be safe.

Then again, I like snow days, so I'm biased.

Oh I know. Us south-of-the-Mason-Dixon-line folks don't get real snow very often. Last February, we got 30, maybe 35 inches. First big snow we have had in close to 10 years. The whole world as we know it was shut down for two full weeks. TWO WEEKS! It was crazy.

What's cracking me up is the South is getting more snow now than we are! We've barely had a dusting. I love me a White Christmas so I'm hoping we get dumped on before then. Supposedly Sunday night we might get a whopping 2-3 inches.

I love when we get snow for 2-3 days straight and have 3 or 4 feet of snow. Okay, I love the first few storms. By April I'm kinda done.......

Now I'm waiting for the Minnesotans, Maine and Vermont people, and Canucks to chime in and tell me what a wuss we Nutmeggers are, LOL!

About a week ago, London, Ontario, was hit with about a meter of snow. Life stopped for about an hour until people got there cars out and the roads were plowed.
