Default Auto vs Auto

G'day, now that i have my DSLR i am wondering if i put the lens in manual focus mode do i need to put the camera in manual mode, and vise versa, if the lens is in manual mode can i still use auto?
why have af and mf on the lens if the camera already has this covered?
Peter

nope. You don't have too. The camera is independent from the lens. I select my Canon's f-stop and desired shutter speed (in the body), then select mode manuel and the lens still automatically focuses. You can, however, still change either the f-stop or shutter speeds while set in manual.

talking about Manuel

YouTube - Funny! Basil gives Manuel a language lesson - Fawlty Towers - BBC

To the OP - manual on the lens refers to focus, manual on the camera refers to exposure (aperture and shutter speed. Not related at all as Jim says

Not all lenses have a MF/AF switch, but if it's there, then both the camera and the lens need to be in AF for AF to work. If either one is on MF, then you are in manual focus mode.
