Default This about sums up a couple of requests I've gotten.

I figure I might as well laugh about it.

Oh man, a friend of mine that lives out of state sent me an email the other day with a link (and the password) to her gallery where she had family portraits done at Walmart. She asked me what I thought of them, which one I liked best, etc.
Holy crap, they were some of the worst photos I have ever seen in my entire life. They literally had them lined up in a straight row looking straight at the camera in every single shot. I thought even Walmart did better than that. I guess not. But she paid $7.99 for them, so I guess she didn't lose much.

The camera was probably on Auto too.

I literally just got a text from a friend asking me to take pics of her kids so that her mum can have some nice ones for Christmas. I text her back saying when and she said "sometime next week cos right now they all have colds and snotty noses".

Most folks just don't get just how much work goes into a) taking the photo in the first place and b) editing the pics so that they look their best (nerdling hubby calls it).

I did text her back saying I'll do what I can. Afterall she's just a friend but she's like a lot of people who aren't into photography she sees my camera and long lens and think that all it needs.

Well, your camera does have that fancy name on the front, and that lens is huge compared to my point and shoot...and look at your portfolio, none of my pictures turn our like that.

Besides, how hard can it be? You just have to push that little "thingy" down...right?

[/sarcasm]

I feel for you, candidrachel..... this is one of the reasons I have stayed away from portraits to this point....
well, that and SusanH1970's work makes me wonder if I will ever have "the touch"

btw, SusanH1970, LOVED the link!

Just be glad, you weren't asked to take pictures of the kids, with the snotty noses...after all, your camera SHOULD be able to make those look good too.....right?

To be honest I don't think the snotty noses would bother my friend That and muddy knees. She just wants snapshots of her kids afterall isn't that what I'm good at?

I do have some pride and want to do my best and just because I love kids!

ps Look at Susan's work as inspiration!! A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step! I have a wish list that will improve my photography like a set of Big Ass reflectors, right Susan?
