Default iPad photo apps

I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed.....

Can anyone recommend a good iPad app for organizing and the basice editing of photos? I just bought a card reader for my iPad so I can finally download pics from my card to the iPad on the fly. I think it will be fun to take my iPad to ski races and the other things I like to shoot (vacations, etc) and do some quick edits and organizing w/o dragging my laptop w/PSE 8 around with me.
I am just a hobbyist (or "Momarazzi" as my kids like to call me) so I don't need anything super powerful. I've looked through the App store and there are several offerings but none have gotten rave reviews. Recommendations?

TIA for any help.

As far as I know there is no good app yet. You could take a small computer, a portable drive or place the photos onto your iPod.

Currently, the iPad is a lovely entertainment device and not much more. As a strictly Apple user who hauls her laptop “everywhere,” I would love to have an iPad. However, the lack of ability to do real work including adjusting photos as well as the pathetically stupid Apple war with Adobe has kept me from purchasing one. Same with the iPhone. I can’t use AT&T in my area and have no intention of paying international roaming charges when abroad. There is a way to get around that by shutting off the 3G network and then using it via WiFi; but why bother?

Besides, AT&T gets the lowest ratings of all U. S. providers. I shall continue to use my unlocked GSM phone and change sim cards.

Waiting, waiting, waiting for things to change. . .

There are apps for that RLucas mention a great one... Photogene
They actually have Adobe Photoshop express for iPad.

Ther have been so many bad things said about the iPad. I started to believe all of it until I bought one for myself. Now I think the iPad is a very cleave and useful tool. I can be just for entertainment if that is all you use it for. I use mine for everything from checking email to teaching my son his ABCs. It's not quite a laptop but way more convenient. I also used an app called portfolio to create a nice digital portfolio to carry everywhere I go. I don't really mean to start an iPad debate but I think this think is very useful. Actually, I just used it to read this post and type my reply...

I'm looking forward to getting an iPad. I love my iPhone 3g (although AT&T service isnt the greatest, I'm still more fond of them than verizon, and they just added #g to my area). Havent got the iphone 4 yet - mainly because the annual winter holiday orgy of greed is here, and I don't have the money for an iphone 4, because I'm having to spend it all on people I dont like/talk to the rest of the year. I do plan to upgrade...
I hear rumors ipad 2 is coming out in february, and people are jazzed about it because it will have a camera. Really? Are you really going to hold up that big thing and try to take a picture?
I plan to use mine for some work, for entertainment, and web use on the go. I only hope it has some type of ad-blocker, because a number of sites I like (including this one) are a LOT faster without all the ads (go firefox!). The inability to manipulate photos on it doesn't really bother me. I figure anything I'm going to want to do a lot of post on can wait until I get home. Otherwise, if I'm just wanting to upload jpgs of the kid with mickey mouse, who's really going to want to see that besides family, and what do they care if the white balance is a little off?
I have carried a laptop with me beofre, and it's a pain in the a$$ on planes, in the car, even on the desk in a hotel room. Too bulky and heavy...I'm looking for something smaller and lighter. It came down to either a netbook or the ipad and I'm going with the ipad. Neither will play world of warcraft... so the only other consideration is being able to put all my music/movies and such on there, and the ipad is just easier.

I agree... the iPad is much easier. And, I don't know if you knew, it can manipulate photos using photoshop. Yes, there is an Adobe Photoshop app. Its nothing like the real Photoshop but it works great.

iPad 2... I have the original. I guess, I couldn't wait for the new one. I don't think I would have used the camera on it anyway. I think it's a great laptop substitute. It's not a laptop but a good substitute.

AT&T... ummm... ?@$#
lol

I've had AT&T and now I have Verizon. The only thing AT&T has that Verizon doesn't is the iPhone. Which from my understanding, Verizon should be getting it soon. That's when I will get the iPhone...

iPad is great and worth every penny!

This.

I love my iPad and I have to fight my family to get it back into my hands. We have some great puzzle games, watch missed tv shows, shop, email, music, movies, you name it. The stooopid Adobe war is bothersome but I try and deal with it. We have other devices for true photo editing but I figured I could show pics from the kids first ski run during the lunch break and keep them entertained. A quick crop or color fix is really all I would be after for that purpose.

I am married to Verizon for a while longer and the ATT service in my area is truly sucky so I am not inclined to switch. Waiting for Verizon to the the iPhone4 and then I'm in line.

Agree.

I will check out the Adobe app and the app that RLucas suggested.

THX.

No, no, please don’t misunderstand. I am very much waiting and looking forward to getting an iPad. I just cannot justify it until it does more of what I need. I have not purchased a Kindle because it’s so limited. Granted, the iPad does more, but not for my needs. I need it to do some heavy lifting with programs like Mathematica (an app which already exists), CAD as well as the photo editing. Integration with Adobe products would be ideal.

I have read that Filterstorm 2 is supposed to be the tops photo app for iPad and closest to Lightroom. I love the organizational ability of LR and its integration with PS; so I’d have to test to see if FS is more trouble than it’s worth.

Gadget freak that I am, the bottom line for me is to have fewer gadgets, not more. I am not alone in the desire.

Ideally, one phone and/or an iPad like computer and my DSLR. All of those would fit into my vest or a small bag.

My iPads have been great selling tools at events where there is not space or electricity to set up a full viewing station.

I really REALLY wish that Apple would open up access to the file names so that the iPad could actually be used as an ORDERING system.

There is a FB group for photograhers with iPads and there is an app developer that participates fairly regularly. Jim Poor | Facebook
