Default Aziz, light!

Do you ever look at a professional photographer's work, photos that have amazing lighting and composition and think, "You know... I really could take those photos, but I don't have the lights or softboxes! Or any money to afford it all! Gah"

Frustration of a new, but confident photographer who needs to save for other endeavours (read: music studio time)

Who's with me? haha.

A. great 5th Element reference!

B. The thing I find myself thinking most often when seeing many photographers works that I like is that I am very confident I can do what they do on a technical level (ie lighting, PP work, camera settings) And I also feel that once seeing their creative choice, I could duplicated it... but since I find that I'm not ever in the position to work with what they have physically (all the nice kit, MU artists, stylists, great models, great locations, assistants, etc) I'll never know if I can do what they do on the creative level on my own without having to copy them!

It's what frustrates me most, that I don't have (or don't give myself) the chance to prove I can do what I think I can do. Granted, my excuse is a "real life job" blah blah blah..

I guess that's why there are those that make it (others) and those that aren't willing to really push to get those things done to prove their own self confidence (me!).

Exactly! Damn you, full time job!

Sorry, this may just appear to be a rant of sorts. I'm currently sitting in an office chair for the next 5 hours Luckily I have a portrait session with a friend of mine on Saturday. Pretty sure I have to do at least one shoot a week not to go insane.

Problem is, my job pays well enough that I don't have the desire or energy to put the effort into what it would take to establish myself as a photographer to get to the level of income I want to maintain my current lifestyle.
Plus I actually like my real job, so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that has a job they like, and a passion outside of that job to keep me even more happy (and often pays!)

So I'll stop bitching now*.

* applicable for only 3.5 minutes after which I'll find something to bitch about, likely Photologyst

Dude,... at least you get to sit. I know it can be boring, my job is at times too. But try standing pretty much in one place without moving your legs to stretch them a whole lot, for 5 hours consecutively or 8 hours broken into 4 hour stints. ( The sales floor, we werent stuck in one spot.) And no, I dont think of "if I only had this, this, and this, I could make a shot like that.) I think of,... all that is, is this, this, and this,...I could MAKE something similar and it'd be cheaper, but still get the same effects. I've made my own crude light box thing,..If I wanted to put more time and effort into it,..I couldve made it even better. Give me a sturdy stand, a can of silver or gray spray paint, a can of clear sealer spray, a small plain black umbrella, and Voila! Just need a good flash to attach to it, or a good light. Think outside the box,... its what will make you stand out.

Wow, that sounds like a bitching rant,....I didnt mean it that way though.

I'm with Fuzzy...
I'm certain I could accomplish anything "technically", but being able to see it and create it as "my original" is where I'm lacking....

This is just the way I think (optimist?) but I don't doubt my creativity until I'm actually trying something.
