Light: Science and Magic: An introduction to photographic lighting It's what I consider the bible of lighting for anyone who wants to understand light, either natural or artificial.

The Moment It Clicks from Joe McNally - mostly because, to me, it was very inspirational about what you can do with a bit of know-how, a lot of effort and creativity.

And though not a book, read the Lighting 101 from the Strobist.com website.

I have about a million other books with just works from photographers, but the Light book is my best "text" book for learning about photography.

Light: Science and Magic

Amazon.com: Light: Science and Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting (9780240802756): Fil Hunter, Paul Fuqua: Books

It is a book that most people should probably read multiple times for it to all sink in, Its more textbook than pretty pictures.

+ 1 for the Light Science and Magic Book.

I also love the 3 Ansel Adams Book. The Negative, The Print, The Camera (not really that relevant unless you work with film still). The negative and The Print however are excellent reads.

I need to check out LSM, since the "Fussy" one, and Bruce seem to like it so much!

I just picked up Light Science and Magic. Loving this book! I picked up Hot Shoe Diaries thinging it would help me understand light but it seems to be on a level for someone who understands the basic principles of light. I'd love to get The moment it clicks but I just bought a 60 dollar book last week so...it must wait.
