Default Photography apps for phones

I have an iphone and am so unimpressed by the reception quality and battery life etc but love all the photography apps for sure. I am tending towards android - has anyone got any comments positive or otherwise wrt the apps availabilty and quality on them?

Is there a DPS app, flickr, DOF calc and golden hr app and are there free ones like the iphone?

I've had a few free apps on my phone. I'm not a big user of the cell phone for photos. I had to get a replacement phone and I didn't re-load any of the phone apps with the exception of:

PhHOforPHO - Hyperfocal Calculator, DOF Calculator, EV for Multiple Exposures, Exposure Calculator, Timer, Distance Meter

There's apps that do the different types of effects that I had initially but like I said, I didn't re-load any of them on my new phone because I just don't really take photos with my cell phone.

Hello Andrew, I have an Android phone (old G1). I have had no problems with reception anywhwere I have travelled. There is a golden hour app and the lite version of it is free. I also found a free DOF calculator. But the PHOforPHO app that lputman mentioned is free and the best I have found. You will need to research to find the COC for your camera. PHOforPHO is phone tools for photographers and has many different calculators all in one application. Check the following link for more info:

Now......with all this great camera gear lying around, why the hell out anyone want to take a picture with a cell phone, no matter how good they claim to be? When they can make a cell phone with a 8 frame per second shot blast, a 14-400mm zoom, and 14 mega pixel, I might consider taking a picture with one.

i still have my old iPhone. It had some great apps for photog on it. However I recently upgraded to a Droid X. There are a few useful photo apps but not many. If any one knows of any please let me know. Not the ones that alter the pics you take on your phone. I only use that if I have to. On my iPhone I had a manual for both my cameras. Very useful.

Actually Jim I never take photos with my G1 phone. It's camera is so incredibly poor even if it is supposed to be 5mp. But the PHOforPHO app is a handy tool (calculator) to help us beginners figure out the relationship between focal length, fstop, distance to subject and the DOF. And other things too. Of course what I end up doing most of the time is just taking a dozen shots at different settings so I have a good chance of getting the right shot. (Now, try to contain your histerical laughter.) But since we shoot digital these days instead of film we hobbyists have that luxury. When I use the app I use it to determine the proper settings, then set my D60 settings and shoot. A few weeks ago I was sitting in the dentists office looking at their hibiscus in the waiting room. I didn't have the camera so I opened the app just to see what DOF I would have if I took a photo of the bloom from 18 inches away with my 50mm set to 1.8.

me laugh...never. I guess when you've been in photography for as long as I, you can start that calculator automatically in your head to figure out the settings. Sooner or later it becomes second nature.

Sometimes your phone is all you have on you (thinking gigs, concerts, art galleries and the like where flash photography isnt allowed)

Don't dismiss the phone camera so readily they can be handy little things! (says she with a crackberry with its 2mp camera )
