so I go into this camera store ( won't drop any names, but it's a store named after a dog like animal and it's a real RITZy place ) to inquire about the new nikon d7000...as I would like to not only see it, but hold it in my sweaty little hands... I ask the gentleman behind the counter if they this model...and to my astonishment this was his answer.
"I can order one for you...they are in such high demand we are not ordering any, and won't have a display model." Is it me??? or was this guy a complete moron with no business sense?? hmmm, if they were in such "high demand" I'd be ordering 3 display models and some for stock!... guess i'll spend my money elsewhere..

This happens to me all the time! Not for expensive gear but little things like UV filters. the bog standards reply is nearly always "we don't have any in stock but I can order you one" and when I ask when it will be delivered they say 14 days!! Give me a break
![]() Our town doesn't have a decent camera shop just a teeny weeny Jessops which is crap! If I had the money and expertise I'd open a shop tomorrow and have everything ready and go the extra mile and keep stuff in stock!

Actually for the D7000 it's normal right now. Nikon hasn't gotten ANY out to dealers yet, and when they do, the cameras will pretty much all already be spoken for (at least for larger dealers). You might have some luck with something smaller, but its not much more likely.
No dealer has the D7000 in stock, and when they do they likely wont have a display model out: A display model is a model they, effectively, can't sell. That's $1500 that cant go into the tills, and it only depreciates from there. Until NIkon gets their act together, dont expect to see many sitting around.

I went looking for more D3's and they told me that they are "too expensive to keep in the store".... yea, but the 300 2.8 prime was just fine. LOL ~Eric |

I havent found one store yet that has the Nikon D3100 that I want. They all have the D3000, but not the D3100. I think when the time comes, that I'm just going to order it from B&H. They seem to have it the cheapest, but I'll also search around at that time and see who has it the cheapest and who has free or cheaper next day delivery charges. At Lowe's about half of our merchandise is Special Order. So its not really that uncommon.
