Default Attending my first workshop - Curious about releases

This weekend I am attending my first workshop. I have never worked with models or even in a studio. I have been wanting to do it for a while and can't wait. However I am a little confused when it comes to releases. For this workshop I have to pay an upfront cost to attend and shoot but they also mention a release form that you need to pay additional for each model you want to use photos of. Now, I'm not using the photos for profit or. If I do some good shots, i would just want to use them in my own online portfolio. What are the guidlines most go by?

Whenever I take one of those classes there is an upfront cost to the phtographer giving the class, plus a per model release fee paid directly to the model.

It sounds like you can take pictures of all the models that you want to, but if you plan to use any shots, you have to pay that model. I would consider using any model's picture in an "online portfolio" to be something that you would have to pay them a release fee.

My cousin does these types of things as a model, and I'm sure if someone from a paid class was wanting to put her picture up somewhere, she would expect to be paid for it.

So say there is 6 models....i want to put photos of each of them into my portfolio...i need to pay 6x the $15. Ouch. Plus some of the shots will contain 2-3 models at the same time. I actually emailed the host and said if I'm not using the photos for anything other than my portfolio do I need to pay for that and the answer was all photos can be kept but i have to supply the models with some shots which is fine.

their workshop states you only need to purchase the release form per model if you want full release of a particular model.

Sometimes there are four models, sometimes one. I always get a release with model shots. (But you don't have to) I just think you never know when you're going to need it. Just pay for the one(s) you want to use. These models are all just starting out and probably aren't getting paid for the shoot at all, if not for release fees.
