Default Camera Club in Central Texas?

So, again, out of my curiosity ( yes, I know, curiosity killed the cat,....but satisfaction brought it back!) I Googled Central Texas Photography Clubs. It came up with one based in Temple,...but when I check both websites it says that their last meeting was in March. So that makes me think that they are no longer. There are plenty down in Austin, but Austin is about an hour and 1/2 away. It'd be cool to start one here in our town,....but I wouldnt even know where to begin. I dont know many people here, much less any other photographers.
Any suggestions? Maybe if you happen to find a Photo Club or know of one in Central Texas (CenTex). Any ideas on how to start one?

You should try finding a MeetUp group. If there isn't a photography group in your area already, it would be pretty easy to start your own through them. That way, rather than starting and having to 'market' one yourself, you'd have a main site where people are already looking for activity groups.

Also check Flickr for photo meetup groups. But meetup is good too (however, I was on meetup for several years before an actual photo meetup group started in the area, so it can take a while if you're just waiting for one to show up... then again, it might take a while if nobody decides to come along. )

As far as searching on Flickr, look for local groups as well as meetup groups because it may just be that the group doesn't say they're specifically for meetups, but they may have them anyway. That's how the Wellington one is, in any case.

What part of "cental" Texas are you talking about? I know there is one in Marble Falls. The meetings are at the library first thursday of each month. They have a yahoo group site. But the yahoo group has very little info on it. It's mainly used just to send messages to the members. The group site is: tlpc-texas : The Lakes Photography Club -Texas

There is also a texas photo website at:
http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum/
You might be able to post a question in that site to get local answers also

We live in Killeen. Hubby is in the Army, and stationed at Fort Hood. Temple is too far to drive for something like that, as well as Austin.

I keep finding places in Texas that I want to see and explore. While looking up where Marble Falls was,...I found the Balcones Canyonland's National Wildlife Refuge. I want to visit Dallas/Fort Worth, I want to explore Austin, theres a "ghost town" not too far outside of Temple that I want to see. I'll see them all one day, I just keep adding places to my list, lol

Default I have a Central Texas Photography Group

Hi, my name is Laura and I googled the name of the Meetup Group that I just started and this forum thread was the first entry.

I have started a Meetup called "Central Texas Photography Group." It covers the area between Hillsboro and Austin. You are welcome to join, even if you are not from the area.

Please feel free to join us, we will be having a ton of cool stuff going on once the late spring/early summer hits. I shoot semi-pro/pro so I have high quality things planned in the near future.

Hope to see you there! It's at www.meetup.com/CentralTXPhotographyGroup
