I use(d) my 14mm-45mm kit lens for the majority of my photos, and tend to stay towards the 45mm end, although I'm using my 105mm Macro lens for more & more pictures these days.

Default Why 50mm, Of Course

Picture 1.jpg

Actually, realizing just how much I favor 50mm was a surprise - even with a zoom lens it's become a habit. After that, some 55mm with the kit lens, and then a mix of using the wide and tele ends of various zooms. Oh, and this is just the top 10 or so focal lengths from the "publishable" shots.

If you enjoy making graphs like these, ExifTool can extract the data for you.

I recently upgraded my blegh 18-55 kits lens to the 17-50mm Tamron. I use this lens almost always now. Not sure what option to choose though, because it covers two of those groups, wide angle, normal and into the telephoto a bit (it has an effective focal length of about 80mm.)

The largest portion of my photos are taken using my Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8. No matter what lens I use, I always come back to the 60mm.

I went through a big stage of shooting EVERYTHING as wide as possible... so, 10mm, but now i'm back on my 50mm - well, when I get my camera back I will be...

I'd have to go for normal as my default lens is still my 50mm f/1.8. Having said that, I often leave my 90mm lens for long stretches (although I think I would be inclined to categorise that as still fairly normal).

I ran through a bunch of my photos in Aperture, looked at the focal length, and couldn't come up with a definite length.

I DID, however, find out that if I'm using my kit lens I'm almost always at the 55mm end, and if I'm using my 70-300mm, I'm usually at 210 or 300mm. So the longest end of either lens that I have.

Obviously when I'm out shooting landscapes 18mm becomes the length of choice, but I'm more prone to zooming.

Just noticed that 55mm is on two of the voting choices, so I'll vote for zoom.

lol it's funny what little things you find out about your shooting habits when you go and look at the numbers, isn't it?

Or in my case, it just proves how often I shoot at or around 50mm

I think about 75% of my pictures are taken with my 70 – 200 F4 lens. I just love this focal length. My only problem with the lens is that the length is a bit long and my version does not have IS.

My tendency is to always look at the widest possible view of any scene. I typically have my 10-22mm on my camera, and use the 10mm end quite frequently. Since my camera has a 1.6 factor, the 10mm is actually like 16mm ... and the 22 end is more like 35mm, so it's almost a walk around lens for me. I LOVE what the 10mm end does to dramatic skies and to lines in an image. I find that I actually have to discipline myself to use my 75-300mm occasionally....
