Going to the airshow tomorrow, could use any tips suggestions, supposed to be a clear sunny day, and I plan on getting there early so I won't be shooting into the sun for the most part of the morning. The afternoon will most likely force me to leave the grounds to head to get away from the sun.. Debating on if i should just use sports mode and let the camera do the thinking for me?? Thanx for any input

Earlier this summer I only took my 75-300 with me and while I was able to get some great shots I wish I had brought one of my other lenses along to get wider angle shots.

Shoot with BOTH eyes open--it'll help you track stuff and zero in that much faster.

I would be using the sports mode, it is the best way to capture the fast flying planes.
Last month I went to Miramar Airshow and tried different settings on the camera: manual, focusing to infinity, short aperture, etc. But the best captures I could do of the fast planes were using the sports mode. Obviously I used my 70-300 lense, but also brought my 35mm and the 18-55 kit lense to photograph the static/on the ground aircraft displays. I also would suggest you to stay at least until the sunset, you can make a very interesting photos of the aircrafts in the ground using the sunset soft light (golden hour). One last thing: set your camera to the burst shooting mode, by doing that you´ll be able to capture more flying action. Here is the link to my airshow flickr album: MCAS Miramar Air Show 2010 - a set on Flickr Have fun!!!
