Today is our 30th wedding anniversary. Amazing that Amy has put up with me for so long.
When we got married 30 years ago tonight, I thought she selected 12 Nov. because it was election day that year and though so every since up until last year. Last anniversary we went out to dinner and she popped the question, "Do you know why I chose to get married on November 12th. I replied, "Election Day!" She just shook her head and said, "It's from that song, the 12th of never. According to Wikipedia, The Twelfth of Never" is a popular song recorded by Johnny Mathis and later by artists including Cliff Richard and Donny Osmond. The song's title comes from the popular expression "the 12th of Never," which is used as the date of a future occurrence that will never come to pass. In the case of the song, the 12th of Never is given as the date on which the singer will stop loving his beloved, thus indicating that he will always love her/him. The song draws a similar link between the cessation of love and a number of other events expected never to happen. Now just how stupid did I feel? It's a wonder we're still married.

CONGRATULATIONS JIM!! What an achievement 30 years!! So what is the secret of a long and happy marriage?? Tolerance? Patience?? Diplomacy?? Please share your wisdom!!
Lovely story you've shared and may you have many more happy memories to come. Here is a quote that my mother shared with me. She's married to a very difficult man (not that your "difficult") but I thought I'd share. Is by Rudyard Kipling: “The silliest woman can manage a clever man; but it needs a clever woman to manage a fool”

Quote:
Ha, Kipling is sure hit it on the head with us. I like the second quote as well......that's true in our case as well. You know how Gemini's (me) are.

Congratulations Jim and Amy!
My wife and I are just coming up to 12 years in January, so we've got a ways to go to catch up to you ![]() I often comment that our marriage feels like it was just yesterday, yet it feels like we've been together forever (in a good way). Here's to 30 more years together for you two (at least)!

Congratulations, Jim! And many more happy years together.
As a believer in love, marriage and lifelong commitment, I am impressed. The twelfth of never is an excellent goal. We have our several decades coming up next year. Trying to arrange a large friends and family celebration/reunion. Will you be doing anything special to celebrate? |
