Default Hey, Look At Me!

I've noticed that some entries get tons of hits and others hardly any. And not all the ones gettin' looked at are that great. (just telling it like I see it). So I was wondering, what is it that draws attention to posts...the title? the contributer? the number of friends one has?
Just wondering how to draw more attention to my posts...hey! we all want love.
Great forum!

I would imagine us old timers around here get more hits just because 1. more people know us look at posts we make and 2. Yeah we have more "friends' who frequent our posts and personally I do look at posts from people I usually don't recognize just by the title if it sounds interesting.

a good question but let me say DO NOT let the number of views or lack of views be any indication of whether people like or don't like your image. Same with responses. Sometimes you have the right post at the right time with the right title and everybody seems to notice, othertime same scenario and the post disappears to page 7 before you know it.
For me it depends on how much time I have to browse. I always click the "New posts" button then scan the forum area. I like lighting and sys&critique portraits. I'll also scan for favorite people posts because I know they'll have something good. Then I look at posts with interesting titles. I know a little about a little because somebody took the time to explain it to me so if I can I like to see if I can help someone solve a problem. I don't know much about macro or landscapes or canon/pentax/sony so I don't usually look there unless the title is interesting.

So that's me, one out of a thousand. I bet others have a different method.

I really do appreciate the feedback. Honestly, I'm not really bothered by the number of hits or responses I get, but I was curious concerning what arouses the interest of viewers. Sometimes I just am not clever with the titles.
WVCoalMinor, I appreciate your sense of humor, you old timer you
I retire from my 30 year job at the end of the year and I'm gonna start posting more so I can be an old timer too! By the way, how many posts before one can be a senior member?

Pretty much what Zona said is about it. I'm surprised that one of my recent threads got as much attention as it did. Then I've posted some new pictures, ( Which I dont do often) not too long ago, the thread got moved, and after that was lost in the pages after 1 in the SYS Landscapes/Cityscapes section. I think I got one comment on it and that was it. We all have the forums that we frequent,...mine are usually General CC, How I Took It, the Assignment section, and then kinda browse some others if I have specific questions or just want to see what some have been up to in the SYS sections. Sometimes I try to offer suggestions in the Earning with Photography, but I try to stay away from it because I'm not a pro and dont earn anything from my shots.

I'm not sure that even being an old-timer is a magic charm (or perhaps it's just me? ). By the time I've contributed to other people's threads and done some of my moderator / janitor duties, I don't start that many discussions but a good proportion of those sink without a trace pretty quickly.

My advice is to get over it. If you want a more precise prescription, how about this: every time you feel the pain of being "ignored", go and contribute (and benefit from) someone else's thread.

I'll look at you if you look at me...

Thats how this place works. You want comments you need to make them. I know a few people do go out their way to comment on the zero posters though as it has been said time and time again that it deflates the ego somewhat to have loads of views and no posts but ho hum.

I remembered just what SYS is like recently when i put up some pictures from my holidays lol

Sh1t happens. Deal with it!

Thanks for starting this thread. I have often wondered the same question myself. I have seen terrible shots with lots of comments and very good shots with one or no comments, so it doesn't seem to correspond with the image quality.

I am primarily a landscape guy and I tend to gravitate to posts that are of an area near me (Bay Area) or to a place I have visited and like (like Yellowstone). Unfortunately, you cannot always decipher this from the thread title. I also try to comment on threads started by folks who I remember have commented on my submissions or that I have had a friendly dialog with on another thread, so it does help to be somewhat "known" on this site.

I do feel badly for people who don't get any comments. Sometimes, I will go out of my way to give them a comment/critique. I figure it's better to get a comment from an intermediate level photographer than nothing at all. On some threads, the point I would want to make may have been covered by someone else, so I won't post. There have also been some posts that are so bad, I wouldn't know where to start and don't want to sound totally negative.

As a joke, I have been tempted to start a thread and give it a title like "Hot sexy coeds!" to see if it gets a lot of hits, but I don't think the moderators would appreciate that.

@auntyjud - you become a Senior Member by accumulating 500 posts, like I did today! I wish that automatically made me an expert! I have already received the key to the executive washroom at work. Like the other posters have said, the best way to get comments is to give them and get recognized.
