Default Large hand and small bottle....

I've seen photos of people standing next to the sun or moon, etc and the object appears very small next to the person. I tried shooting my own hand and a soda bottle on a table to get the appearance that the bottle is about an 1" high. I can get the bottle focused or my hand but not both. Is it because I can't get enough distance from the lens?Anyone know how to get this look?

Two things. One, your hand is probably inside minimum focus distance.
Two, the distance between the two objects is greater than your depth of field.

If you look at those images a bit more, you'll see theres a HUGE distance between the person and the item they're holding up. Theyre also generally a good deal farther from the camera

Your example has neither.

You'll need a smaller aperture (probably a lot smaller for a decent depth of field) to resolve both of your subjects. Also, it's probably easier when working at a distance as the distance between the objects relative to the camera is smaller.

If you're shooting handheld You would need a very small aperture (f/16 range)
You could try using a longer focal length on a tripod farther away, but you'd need to move the bottle even further to get the same view.

Well now I know what to do the next time. I tried a smaller aperture but it didn't work either. I think I'll try using another body to get more distance. Thanks alot guys, I appreciate it...........
