Default Not to bring this up again...

You know, to post process or not, my sister being a butt head, etc etc. Sorry but this story is kind of funny. Last week, I wrote this article on my blog. It has nothing to do with my sister or anyone, just my thoughts on PP. A couple of days later, my sister wrote this big thing on her facebook fan page asking HER FANS whether they were for or against PP. It was long and drawn out, but I will give you the highlights

Quote:
Would you prefer your Photographer capture great photos that show the true character of you and/or your family, flaws, silly faces and all, by simply using their skill, talent, experience and a camera?
Having someone or anyone take your photos not needing to use creativity or experience. Not being forced to take on a challenge that may arise because its easier to 'just edit it later'. This person would take your photos and then spend hours on a computer program- extremely changing, altering and adding/subtracting people, faces or objects until they have achieved an absolutely PERFECT photo. Here's my Q to you, in your opinion, is the end product produced thru a program fake or real?
No one really commented and she has since deleted the whole thing (I had copied it in a PM to someone on here so I still have it for my reading pleasure). I don't know if she ended up getting some negative feedback or if she realized that her fans were not the best people to be asking opinions on the subject. But it is gone.

Anyways, I was mad at first, but then it became a joke between my husband and me. We have had a more than a few laughs about it this week.
To the funny-ish part. My husband is slightly obsessed with Michael Cretu of Enigma. He is heavily involved in following the progress of the Social Song that Michael is putting together. Last night, he showed me this video of Michael editing the lead vocals of the song. Hubby was ooohing and aaahing, raving the genius that is Michael Cretu.
So I said to hubby "That is really neat, but you know that he is not really a musician since he uses a computer to manipulate the sound."
Hubby said "get out of my office."

LOL...she's just jealous that you know how to use Photoshop to enhance your photos, and she doesn't. Sour grapes is all.

ETA: And most likely the reason no one commented on her Facebook post is that most people WANT photographers to enhance their photos. I have never, ever had one client say "Please don't change anything in the photos, I want them as-is." What I get is, "Can you Photoshop out my wrinkles/zits? Can you make my teeth look whiter? Etc...."

Not to beat about the bush but that is a moronic post to gleen opinion on a Social Networking site. She's asked a quesion then basically given an opinion that basically trashes any use of PP and then essentially asked if people want to be fake or not.

Well, aside from the fact that it isn't very well written, she has a point. I don't think she's speaking against any and all PP (I know, we don't have the whole article), but she seems to be against "overdoing it" or the "I'll save it later" mentality. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Personally, I fall in between. I do my best to get it as close to right SOOC as possible, but there's nothing I won't do in post to make a photo better or, heaven forbid, rescue one that I've blown.

Ahh, but you did not have the pleasure of reading the whole thing. She basically said that someone who edits photos is NOT a photographer, but a digital artist instead and you cannot be both. Let me know and I would be happy to send the whole thing to you.

I take stock from the likes of Gavin Hoey who suggests that there is a balance to be struck between understanding and application of Photography and understanding and application of Photoshop (other image editors are available on the market).

I know! And if you looked at my blog post, she directly referred in her little thing to changing out heads, which I did as one of the examples. Like I would have delivered any of those before pictures to the client. Those kids would not be still so I had no choice but to combine the best into one photo.

Anyways, yeah, she doesn't have photoshop or lightroom, but she bought the full version of picnik and can add a mean soft focus and vignette to her photos! AWESOME!

I did mention that we hadn't seen it all. That said, I'll pass. If it's not worth posting publicly in it's entirety, then it's not worth posting at all.

I am always amazed how the subject of PP'ing or not PP'ing gets people riled up as though PP'ing has only been around since digital cameras & photoshop...

I would be curious as to why she pulled it back down...

She bought a full version of PIKNIC?? I thought real photographers would not need such a thing? What a hypocrite she seems to be!
