Default A place to start?

So just for sh!ts and giggles I put in an application on Glamour Shots website because theres one in the mall here. I'm REALLY getting sick of working in the type of retail that I've been doing for the past 6 years. I figured it might give me a little experience with dealing with customers/people in that kind of environment. As well as maybe a lil experience with equipment and such. Figured if they actually contact me, and offer me something, it would be a starting point. As long as they'll pay me close to what I make now. I can't afford to take a pay cut.

Also, I've looked into one of the local colleges here towards an Associates in Art. I think I've seen a thread on this very same subject, but the search thing can be such a pain sometimes. I know that a degree would look much better on a resume and/or credentials in general. Looking at the set-up though, theres only 10 credit hours devoted to your course of study (Which would obviously be photography), out of 66 total credit hours. I wonder about just taking the courses, and doing it on a certificate basis. It would be a lot less money, and a lot less time wasted on things that dont even pertain to what I want to learn.

Tell me honestly, what do you think?

if you are going into a career path where a degree is a valued commodity then ok...if you're going to go out and blaze your own trail then not so much. Better to spend those credit hours on learning the business side of a running your own shop.

Yeah, I know right? I thought the same thing when I first moved here and saw it. I remember it from when I was little and my sister going to get pictures done. They've moved up in the world though. Changed with the times. You can Google Glamour Shots and it'll come up.

I'd probably go the "blaze my own path" route. I might look into doing just the courses then, and then look into business management courses too. I didnt think of that. Had a brain fart, cuz NOW I remember everyone saying something about its not just your skills as a photographer, but also as a business wo(man).

A photographer can take great pictures.
A businessman can sell great pictures.
Add the two and you have a professional.
