Default iTunes/iPods?

Is there a way to recover the serial number of an iPod off of your iTunes account?
My DD's iPod is missing and she thinks one of her "friends" stole it. She has had it for several years and we don't have the original receipt anymore so I was hoping that somehow that information got saved in iTunes from syncing it. If it is in iTunes, does anyone know where cause I can't find it?
Thanks!!

Nicole,

In iTunes, Go to Edit, then Preferences, then Devices. (Hopefully there are some backups of the device!)

Hover your mouse over one of the backups and the serial number should appear in a popup.

I have *heard* that you can log a device as lost/stolen with iTunes, so that an alert is generated when someone tries to sync it, but have not verified that as our daughter only recently got her iPod, and it doesn't leave the house yet.

Hope that helps!

Thanks!! Got it!! Well, got them. We have four of them. We have to verify the serial numbers to the other three to figure out the number on the missing on.

Great, Nicole!

You may want to consider installing this security software into all your mac devices:

Nicole, I just tried this path on my Win7 machine and I find that you have to change your settings to show hidden files. Also the path on Win7 is slightly different but the info is there. Here's the path I used:

C:\Users\(select user name)\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPodDevices.xml

The serial number will be about 2/3 of the way down the page.

If that doesn't work, after you select to show hidden files, run a search of the C drive for the file iPodDevices.xml

(In fact, this might be the easiest way to find them all.)
