Default Heading to Shenandoah and frustrated!

Nothing to do with photography, but next weekend i'm heading to Shenandoah National Park and hopefully will get some great shots but having a hard time finding a hotel along skyline drive or close by! I have literally been looking all day and either i can't tell where they are in comparision to where i want to be or all the reviews are bad.,,,, ... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr guess i'll try looking again tmrw. Anyway live close by and have any ideas?

I live about an hour from there. Do you require that you stay very close by? What city are you looking for hotels in? Just the Woodstock area? Try Front Royal, and Strasburg?

Hey there! I'd like to stay fairly close. 30min or so, I'm not sure which areas are closest. By looking at the maps it looks like Front Royal is at the top of skyline so farther away for me. Wasn't sure how those areas are. Which would you recommend? Also thought about staying in massanutten (sp) since it has a waterpark for my daughter then headover to skyline for the, i think thats not to far? Or maybe i'm just cracking up after looking ALL day! My boss would love to know i have done NO work today

If Massenutten is not too far, then I would highly recommend staying there. That waterpark is wonderful!! We have been there quite a few times.
Actually I was thinking of Shenandoah National Forest when I responded, not National Park. So yeah, my first post is off.

if you are considering Front Royal, just know that it has some very icky areas. There is a bunch of stuff on the north end, right where 66 and 522 intersect that is very nice though

I think it said its about 45 min to skyline...I'll have to check it out. It looked nice via web so it's nice? My daughter is six. figured we would go something for her also
Thanks, i'll look and see what might be near 66 & 522. What area/city is that?

Front Royal. Like I said, I don't know exactly how close that is to where you need to be, but I wouldn't stay in any other area of Front Royal. Some of that city is a bit seedy.
As for Massenutten, have you ever been to a Great Wolf Lodge? The waterpark is very similar. Not sure about the lodging as we have only ever went there for day trips, since it is pretty close.
