I thought that my thousandth post milestone might be a good time to ask this question.
![]() What will be your Legacy—will it have anything to do with photography? Do you care about a legacy? Many on DPS are professional photographers, many more are enthusiastic amateurs. I wonder how many of us will consider their primary professional work, their photography or something else to be their legacy? If you have examples of what you would consider legacy worthy, do please post them. Last edited by Photologyst; 11-02-2010 at 01:37 PM. |

I am amateur who is long retired from my regular job, mainly as tech in the telecommunications industry,
Our legacy is that we have have paid for our children's university education, helped one of them purchase a medical practice. As an individual it is securing my partners financial security for the rest of her life. A far as photography goes it is passing on my enthusiasm for it just as my father did for me many years ago and if I can help other people in their photographic endeavours that is a plus.

Good question!! I'm hoping to encourage other parents to pick up the camera to record their children's lives. My husband reckons we could join all my photos up to make an epic film lol! So often I see a parent just take one photo and then just leave it sitting on the table or even worse leaving the camera at home at times like their kids birthday party no less and missing some fantastic opportunities. I get so frustrated inside when I see that!
In a nutshell I'm hoping that my legacy will be to capture a child's life in photos. Childhood is so fleeting before you know if their off to fly the nest.

My legacy will be taking photos of your beautiful cor... I mean...
I dunno yet. I only started three months ago, and I don't like to boast, I feel like I'm already getting heaps of respect from my photog peers who have been doing it far longer than I. I feel like I'm able to learn very quickly when it comes to photography. I would like to have the legacy that is the smiles on the faces of the people I've photographed. One thing I keep finding is that many people are camera shy when they don't need to be and I've been able to show that with various subjects, snapping their picture to their reluctance then having them enjoy the photo I've taken (say on Facebook by making it their profile picture). They're probably used to unflattering $100 camera photos not showing who they truly are. My guess at this very early stage

Jim - What do you mean you'll have no Legacy??
![]() That's really sad. I think your legacy should be that all your pet portrait animals were LOVINGLY groomed and that animal lovers will have something wonderful to keep after their animal passes away. Any pet owner who has recently lost a pet will vouch for me.

Nothing to do with photography, but I hope I can leave my stepchildren with the understanding being humble does not make you weak, and that you do not have to step on people or hurt others to be successful. That they always have a choice.
