My husband and I also get some odd behaviour and strange looks. The funny thing is, if it's ME with the camera and tripod we get strangers asking what we're doing, that kind of thing, but are generally friendly. If it's HIM, lookout! Apparently a man with a camera and tripod (sometimes) is almost always the nefarious, up-to-no-good type zooming in where he shouldn't be zooming We've encountered this at our daughter's dance recitals, soccer games, with our kids playing outdoors...the only place it doesn't seem to bother anyone is hockey practice...go figure
If anyone has some advice or similar experience, I'd love to know we're not alone

It seems to be focused more so on the men, you know if you have a camera and a zoom lens you must be a pevert...I am also on the Canon digital photography forum where this issue has been discussed as well...with pretty much the same things being said...Luckily, I have taken picutes of my daughter at both the playground and her soccer practice and have never been asked what I was doing...which in hindsight seems rather amazing now after reading some of the encounters both here and the other forum..But the funny thing is, if people actually thought about it, wouldnt the actual perverts, be wanting to hide the fact they are taking pictures (i.e. camera phones) rather than being out in plane view...
