Default Would you say anything?

So I am by no means a pro photographer but I do know a thing or two. I had this lady who owns her own photo business take some family shots outdoors. She has taken photos of my son before and I loved them. Anyways, I paid $125 for the session and 10 images. The exposure is not good. I'm not sure if she was going for a more artistic flare or what but my son looks sickly pale and washed out. There is one where the light is so bright you cannot see the outline of his head on one side. Would you complain or just let it go and move on?

Sounds like someone that just bought a dSLR yesterday and went "WOW I am so a Pro now, I am going to start charging people."

Thats obviously not 'pro' work. If I paid for it, then yeah, I'd complain too. Ask if we could possibly do a re-shoot, and let her know that by re-shoot I mean, you re-shoot, or I want a refund! and you can have your crappy pictures back. Who knows, maybe she was having a bad day, or was in a rush for some reason. But thats still no excuse for shoddy work.

Obviously it needs to be brought to her attention. If you are not satisfied with the product, she needs to know.

Nothing to say except agree with everyone else, if you're paying for it then complain and ask her to fix it. If you don't like the photos then you're never going to display them or look at them - would've been better just to frame the $125 cheque.

One of my best mates got married recently and the photographer there looked like he knew what he was doing. The shots themselves looked like they were taken properly, and he had some pretty solid gear and wasn't young and new to it, but when I saw some of the photos on Facebook, they looked dark, or dull, low contrast, some people whilst looking quite normal on my photos taken at the reception looked kind of... grotesque almost, like he'd played with the lighting around their eyes and face to make features that they didn't have stand out. I won't try and guess what he did.

He also used a very bland vignette which looked more like just a black gradient overlaid on the photo, rather than an "exposure" style vignette.

I mean, I've just started and I'm not saying I'm better than this guy, but the results I got out of a kit lens and 50D at the reception were more lively and natural and flattering. They said they were happy with them so I'll leave it at that..
