Question Secret Locations!

As a beginner in the professional portrait photography industry one thing I have come to find very frustrating is all this SECRET!! nonsense in relation to locations to shoot at. I am one of the mindset that we should all share all the info we have and help each other out! That's pretty much what communities/forums like this are for, right?

Well I would LOVE to ditch this secret idea and start sharing my favorite locations so other photographers can use them and I can benefit from their favorites as well!

This is probably tough since we are a worldwide community but I figure we can at least share with the people in proximity to us and for the visitors that come by.

Here is my collection so far:

Cool locations make for cool images. In a business where having an aesthetically superior product is key, why would you expect others to share their locations? I'm not spending my occasional free afternoons exploring and taking notes and prep files just to hand them over...

Sorry I am one of the no never. I know what it means to lead the pack and the wolves at my heels would have loved to get that info. Bad enough they flat out copied me after they saw the shots I did.

Hey, how did you make that collection of locations on Google? I wanna make a collection too! lol.

Sure I'd tell. A location doesn't make the photograph, exposure, composition, posing, post processing, so many other things do.

Well you're half right - but clients expect the photographer to be able to accomplish these things.. great locations are an extra, and that cherry on the top could mean a deal breaker when it comes to choosing between two comparably skilled photographers...

...professional photography is competitive enough without divulging hard learned assets like locations. Just my opinion of course..
