Default Confesions of a gear head - Blast from the Past

I always tease people about being gear heads when it comes to camera gear. I was digging through old pictures last night and weeding out stuff. Most of it was unmitigated crap. However I found this very telling picture.

This was at the height of my gear head hording. To think I carried most of these lenses all at once on many shoots. Some how I thought that magical lens would make me a better photographer. This was more prime lenses than anyone needs.

Oh boy have I grown up the hard way.

For some reason, this picture reminded me of the "Letter to George" from TOP. I'm sure many of the grizzled veterans here can relate.

I don't remember what camera it was but back in 2000 my mum sold an unused silver SLR similar to that. Cash Converters (pawnbroker franchise) bought it for 15 bucks, then we had a look after a week and it was on the shelf for $125. Bastards!

We weren't photog or gear gurus so no great loss.

... or at least get a Sony NEX or µ4/3 camera to put those Ls on. I've seen some pretty impressive shots from those combos.

My daughter is currently using my FM with the 35mm f/2 for a high school photo class - they start them out with film. I knew there would eventually be a reason to keep that camera!
