It depends on how far along you are and what sort of needs you have.

I use PBASE to show & host some photos, but that's not my true portfolio though it was at one time.

A simple html slide show can be a portfolio as well. I found some free code and am working on getting it going on my new site that will be launching after the first of the year.

There are many, many portfolio templates out there from free to really expensive.

Are you looking for an ability to sell or just show?

For sales, there's nothing better than photocart hosted on your own site.

Hi LewisCanon,

Piwigo can be an interesting solution for you. Piwigo is an opensource software to create a photo gallery on the web. Piwigo has many features including hierarchical categories, tags, advanced search, browse by date or in a map, EXIF/IPTC support, additional features with 150 plugins, change appearance with themes... see an illustrated list of features.

You can download Piwigo and install it on your own website for free, with no limitation. See a 2 minutes video where I download + install Piwigo + add first photos.

If you're interested in Piwigo features and would like to test it without worrying about technical stuff like database settings and FTP transfer, you can create an account on Piwigo.com : this is a hosting solution dedicated to Piwigo.

* Piwigo.org to download Piwigo before installing it on your own website
* Piwigo.com to get a Piwigo gallery in just a few minutes

Here are a few examples made with Piwigo:

Pro photographers
* Shadows and light by Michael Peters
* Vincent Goumont Photography
* Editions Itinerrances

* Sébastien Tarrajat photo gallery
* A few photos by Toxa
* Birds by Sylvain

SmugMug. 150 a year but, you can purchase off the web site. You decide which lab to use, you can also sell other types of merchandise as well. Pays for itself.
