Default A little brag...

Just a little brag about our fluffy boy Lucien.

On Sunday 17th October, we went to a weight pull competition in Leeds. The dogs have to pull a cart/troly 16 feet and have 60 seconds to complete the pull. We had done this twice previously with Mina and only once before with Lucien last season so we weren't expecting much out of them as we have done no training since April.

Lucien pulled an outstanding weight of 2300lbs!! (1043kg/164 stone!), this is 23.23 x his own body weight. Winning his class and winning the competition for Most Weight Pulled.

This means that Lucien is now the joint UK weight pull record holder for Alaskan Malamutes along with his uncle Dash who also completed the same pull last season. We tried the 2400lb pull but he just didn't quite have enough in him to complete the pull.

He was amazing to watch, here is a quick video of him, uncle Dash and sister Mina:

Mina did us proud too, she is getting the hang of pulling... although we think she would much rather be let loose in a shoe shop for the day (typical girl!) She pulled 1500lbs, beating her previous personal best by 200lbs... so she is heading in the right direction!

Awesome, this is exactly why toy dogs suck. If you're stuck under a car I wouldn't count one of them to pull you to safety. If you had one of these Alaskan Malamutes you would probably have to chase them down after they pulled the car off you.

LOL good luck getting them to go where you want when you are on walks though! *grin*

Hmm, my chocolate lab would forget why she was attached to the cart, then go sniff the blocks, then try to run towards me, then stop and scratch, then stare at herself in a puddle, then try pulling and not be able to and give up, then have a nap.

She's lazy and has ADHD, i swear.

Congrats Sam. Didn't know anything about dog pulling events before so thanks for posting.

Congrats on the win and record setting!

I can say I would never get on the ground and cheer my Golden Retriever on because he would run me over with the cart. He has pulled my truck while leashed to the hitch. It is a small truck, but. Not sure what that equates to but I am pretty sure he can jerk your arm out of socket. Besides pulling for 10 ft (in my case) seems a bit like cheating.
