Default Mac Windows or Linux?

Really what is it for you?

My wife hates Windows, she is a Ubuntu user exclusively if she can help it. I am a Windows user through and through because it runs all of my apps and the PC machine does not cost 3 times as much as I feel it should.

PC, since my $750 HP is about as good as a $2100 MBP.

Mac all the way, no viruses, software stays perfectly usable and up to speed for 5+ years (this powerbook can do everything I want it to) iLife, and Aperture is the best photo management software. They also have the best tech support, run better an have a 50 year tried an true rock solid unix core

I've had my HP for 2 years and not a single virus. It has nothing to do with the system, and everything to do with the user.

PC's last long too

Tech support for pc's is a minus though. (NOT AS BAD AS ROGERS)

Are you using virus protection software? and it does if the system in immune to viruses. The user doesn't have to worry about it. The stuff slows it way down

Plus on a mac you don't have to bother with defraging, cleaning up, the registry ect.. Unix takes care of all that on it's own. It's also been shown macs are just plain faster per ghz than a pc.

I have a Dell PC with Win7 and touchscreen, a HP laptop with Win7 and I'm rebuilding an old PC for an Ubuntu installation. The secret is that if anybody else uses your computers you MUST set up a separate login with LIMITED capabilities so that they can't download executable files or make system changes. My wife is computer illiterate so I have her set as a standard user. The last time I had a computer virus was in 2006. Keep your antivirus up to date and don't let ANYBODY install anything.

a system can't be immune to viruses. It's just not possible.
And i haven't had to defragment ANY of my PC's except an old one i found that happened to be 10 years old

Win7 is a HUGE improvement for the PC crowd. I use it at work and I like it. At home, despite HATING Apple for a long time, I've switched to iMac's and a MacBook and they rock. This after being a PC guy for decades. To top it off, I really like Ubuntu. I had it on my last desktop before I decided to go Mac.

The differences have narrowed, especially since Apple went to the Intel processors (and I have Parallels on the MBP so I can run *anything* on it). At this point, having a strong bias only serves to indicate closed-mindedness. Operating systems are finally stable and relatively secure. (It certainly helps to be smart about your online behavior, too!)

Wifey has chosen to remain a Win7 but has no problem getting around on the Macs. Everything happily coexists on the wireless network.

It certainly takes a bit of adjusting to learn any of the operating systems, once you're accustomed to one or the other. But if you take the time you'll see they've all learned form each other's strengths.

For pic and video editing, I really like the integration of everything Mac. But I will happily work on my Win7 systems where I can finally feel like they aren't a decade behind.

After using a pc for many years, I made the switch to mac and I love it. I like not having to spend the money for anti virus programs although I'm sure eventually there will be viruses written for macs. It seems to be easier to sync between computers and it's great for photos. I also like being able to go to the genius bar at the Apple store if I have a problem and the one-to-one sessions are great.
So I guess I'm glad I made the switch.
