When working with files, is it better to save them as a .psd or a .tiff? Does one have an advantage over the other?

TIFFs are for finished photos in highest quality, say for 8 x 10s or larger. JPGs are for posting online or sending via email. |

The only advantage of tiff in my opinion is compatibility with desktop publishing software, PSD is fast becoming standard though. The biggest DISadvantage of tiff is much larger files.
I save in PSD because often times I like to save layers and history which come in handy for re-editing. _ |

You can save a Tiff w/ all layers intact...
Tiff is "universal", PSD is Adobe Only, but really that's not much of an issue IMO.

Is tiff compatible with all the latest Photoshop gimmicks like smart objects etc?
If you don't use any of them "smart filters" and the sorts then there's not much of a difference in my mind. If you use Photoshop for editing then it's a safe bet to save as psd (haven't tested file sizes).
