Default Quick RAW question

As I said in another post... I have been shooting JPEG for 3 years now and am thinking now I want to try shooting RAW..

Is my train of thought correct in the following:

JPEG = Shoot - camera processes picture - I re-process picture (sometimes over process perhaps) on the computer

RAW = Shoot - I process picture on computer

So... my thinking is... when I'm editing a JPEG then technically that image is getting edited twice?

You are correct. JPG's are processed twice if you do post. Plus, it's easier to make modifications to a RAW such as white balance, etc. before you actually process the image, whereas with a JPG, you are always modifying the image after it's initial modification and compression.

I think of JPEG processing like trying to turn a toasted egg sandwich into scrambled eggs with toast on the side. Not very easy.

Great that you're wanting to change to RAW. In the end, we all end up with JPEGs (most common anyway), but RAW gives you massive headroom in developing your photos to exactly how you want.

I recently tried improving some photos which had been shot in JPEG (just on a point and shoot mind you) and it wasn't easy and in the end I didn't end up with the results I could have gotten had they been in RAW.

Once you shoot RAW, you'll never go back.
