Has anybody ever read the rights and usage for facebook? If you post a picture on facebook and make it public, facebook has the right to use your picture for any advertising that they see fit for them or their partners. I stopped posting most of my pics to face book, I only post pictures I really want my friends and family to see, and then I dont make those pictures public.

i originally joined because i was ALWAYS the one with the camera at parties, and i would get 10 separate people on MSN Messenger hounding at me to "SEND ME ALL THE PARTY PHOTOS!!!!" and sending hundreds of photos (especially when cameras started getting into 10+ Megapixels) literally just would not work. somebodies messenger would sign them out in the middle of the transfer, or else their family members would kick them off the computer, etc. it was just extremely inefficient, especially to share them with multiple people. so i joined facebook as a way to post all the photos for everybody to see, without each individual having to sign up for a flick account, or snapfish, or any other photo sites like that. now i use it for communicating with far away family members (who somehow find facebook easier to use than a simple email), sharing things to multiple people (links, photos, announcements, etc) keeping up with local news stories, i use it to advertise Squamish Serpents (my snake breeding business), Cleaner Fairy Housekeeping (my residential housekeeping business), i have a "Katia's Photography" page to share some of my more high-end photos with friends and family members (these photos don't get posted on my typical Facebook Page, they get watermarked and posted on a separate page) etc etc. the list just goes on and on! anyways, this is extremely off-topic, but back on track, there are ways to protect yourself on Facebook, it just takes a bit of digging into the settings. |

WHY anyone would want to place so much personal into online is beyond me. Some of our family members and friends are members of FB, but use it in a limited manner. I prefer photo sites and blogs. |

When I saw that I realised that was the cherry on the top of the pie. "Confirm". Bye FB, bye. Whether they still conserve the info I 'deleted', who knows, after seeing they 'magically' recovered or 'secretly' kept deleted stuff of mine, but I'm glad they didn't get more... its a non-issue if you upload low resolution and well watermarked images.
they cant use them if they wanted to.

The only thing that annoys me about facebook are all the app requests. I have to keep them filtered.
Otherwise, I enjoy it for the most part. Low res, well watermarked images are the best way to go. Although, I do need to change the way I watermark my images for there. |

Any images I put on there are watermarked and lo res. And I don't use any of the applications. I love FB. I have hooked back up with friends and family all over the county. it just makes saying "hello" easier than spending time on the phone. I also administer two separate FB pages for my job, and must be a FB user in order to be an administrator. Those FB pages for our opera company and youth opera program are great PR vehicles. I set up events there and news is passed from one to another. FB is great if you use it to your advantage!
