Question HELP needed please!

Hello photographers,
I have been asked to shoot at an engagement party coming up soon and I honestly dont know where to start.
Could someone please help me with ideas of shots I could do, what settings to use on a Nikon D3000 and how many pictures I should be taking.
Thanks guys
Happy photographing

In a function room. Night time. Dark. Disco lights may well be used.
Any ideas?
And what sort of shots would they require you to get on an engagement party?
Thanks

Yikes........go to the library or bookstore and see what the have on the shelves for events photography. Normally shoot some portraits of the couple and them having fun, dancing, drinking as well as their friends. Do you have a flash unit?

I would suggest getting the couple into a favorite place and doing some romantic shots of them say @ the beach, in a park, etc. The party shots will surely not be exactly what they are looking for.

There are quite a few threads on DPS that cover engagements: Digital Photography School - Photography Forums - Search Results

Also, you could google "engagement photos, etc. There is a ton on the web.

Do some practice shooting before the big day!

Ouch, you're going to need some fast glass and / or some off camera lighting.

If you don't already have a fast 50mm prime lens run out and buy / rent the best one you can afford. Its going to be something you'll use for all kinds of things anyway. It'll let you shoot in much lower light, just be mindful of your focusing. The depth of field is going to be very shallow wide open like that.

As for off camera lighting I will often take a hot shoe flash and put it on a stick so I can move it around and change the lighting angle easily. A monopod would work for that but I made my stick with some PVC and a 1/4" screw for about $2.
