Default Flickr Question

Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this post, but didn’t really see anything else that would suit such a general question.

Several months ago I joined DPS so that I could ask some questions about a few photos. I quickly learned that I needed a Flickr account in order to easily upload those pictures. So not only am I new to digital photography and DPS, I am even newer to Flickr.

Now for my question: Recently, I have ventured out from using Flickr strictly as a storage platform and have started to explore a little bit. What are some of the best groups out there for landscapes?

I don't know any specific groups, but it should be very easy to find them. Just search for landscapes in Groups-search and explore what comes up. Check out the discussions and see if there's anything you'd be interested in participating in. Flickr, as well as DPS, is a great place to learn and chat with people with similar interests. It would be a shame if you used it only as a storage place.

Thanks for the tips!

I joined a couple of groups by following links from other photos. The ones I have been watching are an odd mix. There is a lot of very nice work, but they tend to be full of a bunch of less than great captures too. Got me to thinking that there might be some groups that have minimum standards like focus. lol

Contributing my stuff doesn't really interest me right now. I just like to see the really good work and read the exif data.

Thanks again!

Not a group, an individual, with some inspirational pics from the US North West..

Flickr: Gary Randall's Photostream

He usually has Exif info.

If you like the HDR look (but no Exif info), from Turkey.
Flickr: Nejdet Düzen's Photostream

Both are contacts of mine.

Can you join an individual's Flickr stream like you do a group?

You can make them a contact which makes it easy to see what photos they are posting. When viewing their photo stream (not an individual pic) there is a menu choice under their name.

You can expand past landscape also. Perhaps a group which uses the same camera you use, or lens. There seems to be a group for EVERYTHING!

If you're just looking to see other photos, or for storage, there is Webshots.com. I also use flickr, and DPS.

Here's a couple links to some decent general groups out there...

Flickr: My Gear and Me #1 - (Post 1 - Award 5) - Sweeper is ON

Flickr: Flickr Bronze Award ~ Post 1, Award 5. Sweeper On. No Reposting.

Both of these are links to the first of several subsequent levels you can reach, depending on awards received.
