Was anyone else transfixed with the rescue? I'm so pleased that they all came up and was surprised at how fit and healthy they all looked considering their ordeal. Some of them looked quite HOT
I was actually quite emotional watching the rescue on the news last night. We needed some good news and a happy outcome for a change. There have been so many disasters and terrible accidents in recent years.

My opinion will probably label me a hater or negative person but here we go,
On the one hand it was great to see the mine workers rescued, people from one of the lowest working classes in Chile were all hugged by the president, media and of course friends and family. Even I though it was quite a nice thing to see. The other side of the story is that the media ever hungry for a story all rush to Chile and camp down to be the first on the scene. Considering that Chile had to deal with a terrible Tsunami quake that destroyed whole fishing villages I consider the media interest artificial and fake the Tsunami received almost no attention at all. All the media are after is the latest story because so many people are interested. In a few days all the tents and media vans and cameras will be gone, the trails to the nearest airports will blow with the dust of all the vans and camera crews, heading off to the newest disaster and story that will grab our willing attention.......

Still , this was an amazing story and I was so happy to be able to sit with my family last night and cheer as the last few miners came up, and then to hear a rousing rendition of the Chilean Anthem led by the President and the last miner that came up was inspiring.

It was chilling to follow, and nail biting to watch as the last miner came up. I was grate full when the last man came up. I have worked in the deepest mines in the world, and strange things go on down there.

Cypher, miners are not the “lowest working class.” I would guess that prostitution or day laborers are probably more near the bottom. I was surprised to learn that Chilean miners make pretty decent money for such dangerous work. Otherwise, the soccer star would not have become a miner—which he did for the money.
Your comments are correct about the media frenzy. However, it is a very good thing to illustrate how well Chile did with this. It has raised their status in the world. No doubt there will be lots of tourism as a result of their success and people wanting to learn more about Chile. Not only that, but the technology that they invented will now surely be used around the world. That is all good for Chile and its people. The only issues might be how the 33 do as time goes by. Some will become “media stars” and may work in other professions. Many will go back to mining, others will never go back to mining and may have PTS. I too was gripped by this story and glued to the tube for a few hours a day. I couldn’t help but compare how poorly the richest country in the world, the U. S. did with its recent disasters from hurricanes and floods to mining disasters. Can’t wait for the books and the movies.

This cartoon sums it all up for me:
![]() http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/upload/n...09_cartoon.jpg But otherwise im glad they're all up safe yadda yadda yadda But im also worried about the long term effects on them and their families. I hope the 19 year old gets help towards study for example - but i doubt he will. Tomorrows chip paper sadly. Hmm did that cartoon post?

Think of it this way. . . If the media frenzy wasn’t, then how would the world know of the ordeal and what a superb job the Chileans did with the rescue?
As much as I detest the media, I see this as a benefit for the most part. Heart wrenching was the wife who didn’t show for her philandering husband, but the long-time girlfriend did. He looked disappointed. Wife said that she, “Didn’t want to be humiliated in public.” I would be very interested to see where that relationship ends up. People are always interested in an engaging human factor in every story—even in anthropomorphized animal stories.

In one tabloid newspaper says the miner with the exra marital affair says he didn't want to come up because of the revellations of his love life and that HE chose his mistress over his wife to be there to greet him. Its sad because he was married for 28 years!
I agree though that his face didn't seem very pleased.
