New York photographer Jay Fine had spent the night braving the storm in Battery Park City, Manhattan, in a bid to get the perfect picture. Jay spent nearly two hours poised with his camera and took more than 80 shots before striking lucky with this particular bolt of lightning at 8.45pm on 22 September. He said he had been waiting 40 years to get the picture.

To capture the shots Jay used a Nikon D300s with 60mm f/2.8 lens on the following settings: Aperture: F/10, Shutterspeed: 5 seconds, ISO: 200."

I think after 23 years I would have photoshopped lightning in

It's unethical to photoshop the lighting in. Yes, I would have waited that long too.

I would , i have an idear for a shot down by the local river that needs the right conditions i have been waiting for a couple of years now LOL they havent happened yet but when they do i will be heading straight for it

Maybe so, but I have know plenty of good photographers who have taken stuff out of their photos, moved the ball closer to the hands and done all manner of unethical things and they were fired.

Hahahaha..how true! And the Mariners keep wishing and trading away their good players, who happen to end up on World Series Teams. That's the same way with NBA, and NFL players here in Seattle. The owners are more worried about making a buck than bringing the pennant home.

40 years?! I guess he doesn't know about them little gadgets that trip the shutter when it see's lightning. Could've got the shot in about an hour or so...
