Default How To Take Scary Photos

Halloween is just a couple of weeks away. So I thought it would be pretty cool if we could share how to take scary photos before the 31st of October gets here

I like your signature :P

I'm probably going to be shooting my first Halloween party in a few weeks and my first guess is lighting, lighting, lighting! Something like the bottom spot light and a brooding look on your subject sorta thing.

Also ambient lighting in the reds or off-greens. Red ambient lighting might make you think of vampires, whereas green would make you think of witches. Orange is of course the jackolanterns.

You might even be able to try coloured flash bounce cards or something.

Having scary people to shoot helps.

Shot this with a single strobe sitting on the floor with a red gel, and 2 smoke machines.

Well, you could go visit a scene where there are folks with lots of leather, piercings and coloured, stiff hair. Meth user teeth are also ideal as is shredded clothing.

Otherwise, try adjusting the exposure of ordinary people to make them look “scary.”
