Default The Christmas on-slaught has begun....

and it hasn't even been Halloween yet!

Its my husbands birthday today. 10.10.10! I took us all out for lunch and the restaurant was decked out in Christmas decs complete with Santa, tree etc etc. I know they have to advertise their restaurant for potential Xmas parties but still.....

That is why I liked living in foreign countries: Panama and the Azores. There, they celebrated the spirit of Christmas not all that commercial b.s. we're hit everyday from October thru December.

Aye, we should all get back to what it's really about...the birth of Santa.

That is revolting, Rachel!

There are a few places in the U.S. where Christmas isn’t about Kitsch, such as some small towns, but for the most part it’s best to “hybernate” until after the January sales.

Happy Birthday to your hubby. Make him a lovely meal and forget the restaurants.

I don’t know about those places, Jim. But I can tell you that Europe and Japan are as much into unbridled capitalism as the U. S. is. The only difference is that they have superior merchandise.

A long time ago, back in the dark ages, I worked part-time in Macy's, Herald Square, NYC, while in college. Coming back to work on the day after Thanksgiving was always magical. Somehow between Wednesday night and Friday morning, the store's magical elves transformed the pplace into a holiday wonderland. I always loved being there during that season. Even the tree in Rockefeller Plaza doesn't get lit until December! I love the holidays and the decorations (tasteful) that go with it, but it just loses something when it's all around for 5 months!

Then comes "Valentines day" in which we must by our wives a Lexus if we truly love them.

Personally I would rather have anything from the new 1D line up.

I too remember those days. Christmas all year 'round is like "perfect" summer all year or berries and whatever available out of season. Just a crashing bore.

I just ignore the whole thing and follow the seasons and their corresponding Holidays.

The only thing I look forward to anymore is the yearly appearance of Yukon Cornelius!
